Truck hits house

A man is facing several charges after the truck he was driving hit a home and severed a gas line.

At approximately 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 26, Durham police responded to a collision on Mohawk Street, west of Beatrice Street West and Simcoe Street North. A Chevrolet pickup truck had gone off the road and hit the side of a house, severing a gas line on the side of the building.

The occupants of the house were evacuated and a nearby school, Sunset Heights Public School, was temporarily closed as a result.

The gas line has been repaired. There were no injuries reported as a result of the incident.

A 21-year-old of Northbrook Street in Oshawa has been charged with impaired driving and exceeding 80mgs of alcohol in his blood in connection with the incident.
