Traffic stop leads to seizure of guns, drugs

A 24-year-old man was arrested after a routine traffic stop led to the discovery of drugs and a loaded handgun.

On Friday, May 1, at approximately 7:30 p.m., Durham police stopped a white Nissan Altima for speeding in the area of Grandview Street and Taunton Road in Oshawa.

The driver was arrested after he was observed with drugs on his possession. During the investigation, officers located a loaded handgun, approximately $8,000 in drugs, Canadian currency and drug paraphernalia.

The 24-year-old Oshawa man is facing nine charges including two counts of possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking, careless storage of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, occupying a motor vehicle with a firearm, and tampering with a serial n umber. He was held for a bail hearing.
