Ten arrested for impaired driving over the weekend

Over the weekend, the Durham Regional Police responded to more than 40 calls for impaired drivers and arrested 10 people, including once incident where a driver turned left on a red light in front of a police officer and then failed to stop.

On Sept. 17, at approximately 2 a.m., an officer from Central East Division observed a vehicle turn left from Centre Street South onto King Street West when the traffic light was red. However, when the officer attempted to pull the car over the vehicle did not stop. The suspect vehicle was swerving along the roadway and came close to striking parked vehicles and concrete barriers.

Additional officers were called to the scene and used a rolling block to stop the suspect vehicle. The driver was arrested without further incident.

A 60-year-old male of Sunningdale Avenue in Oshawa, is charged with: impaired driving and failing to stop for police.

Police are reminding residents that if you see a driver who you think may be impaired, call 9-1-1 as soon as it is safe to do so.
