An Oshawa teacher is facing a future disciplinary hearing with the Ontario College of Teachers.
According to documents on the college’s website, it is alleged the teacher, who was employed by the Durham District School Board, “failed to maintain the standards” of his profession through his actions on social media.
The allegations state in June 2017, the accused made a number of “inappropriate” statements on Twitter, including;
– Suggesting that gender variations other than female or male should be considered mental disorders
– Action should be taken against Muslims in Canada, including a travel ban, surveillance of mosques, and mass deportations
– That legislation in Ontario and Canada relating to gender equality and gender expression was “totalitarian”
– Suggested a multicultural society in Canada is “undesirable”
– Stated allowing transgender children to receive sex hormones or surgery is “disgustingly sick child abuse.”
– Canada should not allow “refugee immigrants” unless they are “economically viable.”
– The value of Canadian citizenship was diminished by the acceptance of Syrian refugees into the country
– Suggesting a gay pride event at a local public library was “mentally ill men forcing abnormal behaviour on kids at taxpayer expense.”
Should the accused be found guilty of the allegations, he will be liable to penalties within the Ontario College of Teachers Act.
The teacher’s hearing has yet to be scheduled.
