Summer jobs deadline extended

Employers looking to get some extra help this summer now have some extra time to get their applications for the Canada Summer Jobs program.

Small businesses, not-for-profit organizations and public sector employers are all encouraged to put their name in for the program, which sees federal funds help pay wages for students looking for work over the summer months.

Under the program, small businesses and public sector employers can have up to 50 per cent of the provincial minimum wage covered for any summer students, while non-profit employers can receive up to 100 per cent.

Along with local priorities, employers are encouraged to apply if their workplace falls in line with a set of priorities, including small businesses working to become more innovative, competitive and successful, employers involved in welcoming and helping to settle immigrants and refugees, employers that hire indigenous people, any opportunities in science, tech, engineering or mathematics, and those involved in activities surrounding the country’s 150th anniversary celebrations.
