Storm win gold twice in memorial tournament

A pair of Oshawa Storm teams struck gold at the recent Oshawa Storm Memorial Tournament,

The tournament was held at four different arenas across the city, including the Legends Centre.

Thanks to a strong goaltending performance by Kayleigh Mochan, as well as goals from Sierra Ainsworth and Mateya Hughes, Oshawa defeated the Ottawa Ice 2-1 on in the U16A Division Final held at the Legends Centre in Oshawa.

It was redemption for the Storm who had dropped a 2-0 decision to Ottawa during round robin play, their only loss of the tournament.

The theme was similar at the U9 level with Oshawa facing the Ajax-Pickering Lightning, who had previously defeated the Storm 12-11 in the tournament opener.

In the final it was a different story as Rebecca Bryan scored five goals and Mayci Grieve added a goal and two assists to lead the Storm to a 6-4 victory to secure gold.

Oshawa also came close to taking home gold in the U12A Division. After going 2-1-1 in round robin play, the Storm settled for silver after falling to the Guelph Predators in the division’s championship game.

The story was similar in the 18 BB Division as the Storm dropped a 5-1 decision to Ajax-Pickering in the championship game.

Nearly 80 teams participated in the four-day tournament, which featured teams from across Ontario and Quebec.
