Serious collision sends two from Oshawa to hospital
Two people from Oshawa, and one from Scugog remain in stable condition in hospital following a motor vehicle collision in Whitby.
At approximately 9:49 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 23, Durham police responded to the report of a motor vehicle collision involving multiple vehicles at the intersection of Thickson Rd. and Consumers Dr. in Whitby.
Witnesses reported a Saturn sedan was southbound on Thickson when it swerved to avoid a collision with a northbound vehicle that had started to turn left. The Saturn collided with a traffic signal pole and a pedestrian before coming to rest on the southeast corner of the intersection.
The pedestrian was thrown into a third vehicle that was turning right from Consumers to go south on Thickson. The pole was knocked over and laid across the intersection.
The 19-year-old driver of the sedan, from Scugog Township was rushed to hospital and a 55-year-old male passenger from Oshawa was airlifted to a Toronto trauma centre. Both remain in stable condition with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
The 22-year-old male pedestrian from Oshawa was rushed to a Toronto trauma hospital and remains in hospital care in stable condition. The 62-year-old female driver of the third vehicle was not injured.
The cause of the collision is still being investigating.
