RYCROFT, CHARLES BERTRAM

Charles passed peacefully at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 with family at his side. Born October 7, 1924 in Whitby, second child of Charles Bramley Rycroft and Eugenie Hannon and sister to Violet (predeceased). Married for 66 years to Eleanor May Gouldburn (predeceased 2012) and lifelong resident of Whitby, Ontario, Charles leaves his children Sandra (Clare) Metselaar, John (Mary) Rycroft and Donald (Kathy) Rycroft, grandchildren Juliana (Scott) Cline, Dr. Jennifer Rycroft and husband Mark Kowgier, Lindsay Rycroft and Matthew Rycroft, great-grandsons Marshall Charles Cline and Sidney Edward Kowgier, many nieces and nephews. Charles and Eleanor were honoured with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012. Charles was always very active in his community: Peter Perry Award recipient (2014); Rotary Club of Whitby (Paul Harris Fellow); Masonic Lodge as P/DDGM Ontario District, Past Master of Composite Lodge No. 30, TPGM Toronto Scottish Rite and Shrine; YMCA Board President; the United Way and his church. Cremation has taken place. A private family interment is planned.  Friends are welcome to attend a memorial service at All Saints Anglican Church, 300 Dundas St. W. in Whitby at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 with reception following in the parish hall. Masonic service at W. C. Town Funeral Chapel, 110 Dundas St. E., Whitby, on Tuesday, March 29 at 7:30 p.m. Charles’ family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Lakeridge Oshawa Palliative Unit (4F), as well as Drs. Ngo and Aziz for their devoted care and attention. In lieu of flowers, donations to R. S. McLaughlin Durham Regional Cancer Centre or Rotary International would be appreciated.
