Rotarians battling hunger across the globe

Local Rotarians will once again partner with Kids Against Hunger Canada to put together food hampers to be delivered to communities in need around the world.

The local Rotary community will soon join together to help feed those in need.

Members of the four Rotary Clubs of Oshawa, Oshawa-Parkwood,Whitby, Whitby-Sunrise, together with the Rotaract Club of Durham College-UOIT and many family members are joining forces and partnering with Kids Against Hunger Canada to purchase and to pack more than 30,000 meals, in one day.

The many volunteers will come together on Saturday, May 4,  from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  at the Jubilee Pavilion at Lakeview Park in Oshawa.

This ambitious effort is made in collaboration with Kids Against Hunger Canada , says  Ted Morrison, Past District Governor of Rotary International District 7070 and chair of the event.

The four Rotary Clubs have paid for the food and with an efficient assembly line of volunteers dressed in aprons, plastic gloves and hair nets, all 30,000 meals will be packed and ready to ship in short order.

The meals will go to where it is most needed. Last year, our meals, with transportation provided by Kids Against Hunger Canada, went to Kenya, Haiti, and some went to our Indigenous people right here in Canada. It is anticipated that similar locations will be chosen shortly for this massive humanitarian project.

World-leading food scientists took nearly three years to develop a food package, for Kids Against Hunger Canada containing six meals for only $ 0.23 per serving, with ingredients that provide a blend of protein, carbohydrates, and vitamins needed by an undernourished child’s body.

Every hour of every day, children die of starvation or malnutrition-related diseases.

Kids Against Hunger Canada is a registered Canadian charity, whose mission is to end that tragedy. Kids Against Hunger Canada packages and ships highly nutritious, life-saving meals to starving and malnourished children within Canada and developing countries around the world.

They do this by mobilizing the energy and caring of Canadians, just like those in the four Rotary Clubs of Oshawa, Oshawa-Parkwood, Whitby and Whitby-Sunrise and the Rotaract Club of Durham College-UOIT and their families (children, teens, and adults) on behalf of hungry children around the world.
