Lane restrictions on Stevenson

Drivers driving past the Oshawa Centre should be prepared for slower traffic over the next two months.

Durham Region’s works department has announced that starting May 24, there will be lane restrictions on Stevenson Road between King Street West and Gibb Street. Heading south, traffic will be narrowed down to one lane at all times, while the northbound lanes will be reduced to one lane between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on weekdays.

According to a news release, the work is being done to improve the entrances to the Oshawa Centre.

Work is expected to last until July 22, although the region advises that unfavourable weather conditions could influence that schedule.

Drivers are reminded to drive safely though construction zones, and to watch for pedestrians, cyclists and construction workers.

Construction at Simcoe and Adelaide

Those driving near Lakeridge Health should be ready for potential slow downs.

The region’s works department has announced that as of this week, construction has begun on the intersection of Simcoe Street North and Adelaide Avenue, just south of the hospital.

The work will extend on Adelaide from east of the Oshawa Creek Bridge to west of Mary Street North, and on Simcoe north and south of the Adelaide intersection.

The work, expected to last until the end of June, will see storm sewer repairs, asphalt replacement, the installation of traffic loop detectors, curb and gutter work, sidewalk replacement and new pavement markings.

The region is asking drivers to exercise caution for the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and construction workers.
