Regional sign bylaw to be enforced
With the provincial byelection coming up, Durham Region is reminding candidates to play by the rules when it comes to their signs.
The region is reminding candidates and their staff that signs placed on regional roads must be in compliance with regional bylaws, which dictate the size of signs and how close they can be to the road.
The region says that signs that break this bylaw may be removed at any time without notice, and the owners will be responsible for the expenses incurrent with removal and storage of the signs. According to the bylaw, the region charges $50 for removal and $2 per day of storage for each sign.
Signs not claimed within 15 days may be recycled without notice and without compensation.
Signs from the Whitby-Oshawa byelection must be removed within 48 hours of the election.
For more information on the region’s temporary sign bylaw, please contact the regional works department’s traffic engineering and operations division at (905) 666-8116, or online at durham.ca/signbylaw.
