Region releases new waste collection app

Durham Region waste app

The Region of Durham has released a new application for iPhone and Android users that will allow them to easily access information on waste collection. This includes finding out what day your next collection is or to arrange pickups for larger items.

The Region of Durham doesn’t want you to miss another waste collection day.

The region, in partnership with its works department, has officially announced the Durham Region Waste App, which will give residents instant access to information on waste collection.

“We use apps for so many daily activities, like banking, checking the weather and reading the news. Now, Durham residents can also easily access customized information about waste collection from their smartphones and tablets,” states Roger Anderson, the region’s chair and CEO, in a news release. “I encourage all residents to download the Durham Region Waste app, set up a collection alert, and never forget your garbage or recycling day again.”

Key features of the app include a personalized collection day calendar, an option for pop-up reminders on your smartphone or tablet, information on how to arrange collection of bulky or porcelain items and the ability to report collection issues, which includes a feature to upload photos directly.

“The Durham Region Waste App makes it easy and convenient for residents to manage waste through innovative features, such as collection reminders and the ability to search for any item to learn how to properly dispose of it,” states Cliff Curtis, the region’s works commissioner, in the same news release. “This app is another way that The Regional Municipality of Durham is working with residents to improve its diversion rate.”

The app is available on iPhone and Android smartphones for all Durham residents who receive curbside collection services, including recycling.
