Police dog helps to apprehend suspect
A local police dog took a bite out of crime as it helped to track down a man accused of stealing a vehicle in Oshawa.
At approximately 11:45 p.m. on Aug. 12, a Durham officer located a stolen van near King Street and Farewell Street in Oshawa.
When the suspect saw police, he ran into a heavily wooded area. An officer from Durham Regional Police Service’s K-9 Unit attended with police dog Rogue, and the duo located the suspect shortly after.
He was taken into custody and sent to local hospital with minor injuries.
A 34-year-old man of no fixed address faces charges of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
He was held for a bail hearing.
