Police dog finds suicidal man
A Durham police dog is being credited with finding a man that had taken a lethal quantity of prescription medication.
At approximately 11:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 10, officers were called to the area of Ritson Road and King Street East for a distraught man that had taken a lethal amount of drugs and fled his home.
While the direction he was travelling was not known, Blitz, a Durham police dog, led his handler to a garage a block away. Inside, the man was located and later apprehended under the Mental Health Act. He was taken to hospital to be treated for the overdose.
