It was all Lindsay Panchan at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre on Friday night.
The second year sport management student from Ajax led the Durham College women’s basketball team with 41 points in their 66-64 victory over the Algonquin Thunder, breaking Durham College’s record for most points in a single game in the process.
“I’m extremely happy to find out I broke the record here at Durham College, but we aren’t even halfway through the season, so we’re focusing on the next game for us against Centennial on Friday,” states Panchan in a news release. “I’ll take a little bit of time tomorrow to enjoy it, but Monday we’re back in the gym preparing for our next game and that’s where our focus is right now.”
Durham’s record was previously held by Jenn Hevey, who scored 38 points in a single game in 1998.
The loss was Algonquin’s first of the season and only their fourth in the last seven years. Prior to the loss, Algonquin had won 17 straight games over Durham, with the Lords’ last win over the Thunder coming on Jan. 12, 2007.
Panchan and Brittany Walters of Oshawa were the Lords’ lone scorers in the opening quarter as Algonquin was ahead 16-10 through one quarter.
Walters finished the game with 10 points, while Panchan also added 11 rebounds for a double-double.
Durham will next hit the court against the Centennial Colts on Nov. 27 in Scarborough.
