Oshawa’s unemployment rates go up

While the number of people working in the Oshawa area has not changed, the unemployment rate has gone up due to more people going into the workforce.

That’s according to the latest numbers from Statistics Canada, which shows the seasonally unadjusted unemployment rate for the Oshawa census metropolitan area – which also includes Clarington and Whitby – at 6.4 per cent in March, up from 5.9 per cent the month before.

However, the number of people working remains unchanged – what did change was the number of people in the workforce in total, going to 222,900 from 221,900.

Regardless, this is an improvement over last year, when March 2015 saw a seasonally unadjusted unemployment rate of 7.9 per cent.
