The city has racked up another designation honour based on its forward thinking.

Oshawa was recently named as the seventh most intelligent community with a population between 100,000 and 250,000.

This ranking came as part of the Intelligent Community Forum’s international rankings of the top communities in the world.

The Intelligent Community Forum is a New York-based think-tank which has been researching intelligent community development for more than 20 years.

Oshawa was joined by Waterloo (first), Kingston (fourth), Sarnia (eighth) and Burlington (tenth) in its category.

Cities from the U.S., Australia and Germany were on the list as well.

According to a media release, the list was developed using data information from the past five years, specifically results from the Smart21, Top7 and Intelligent Community of the Year evaluations.

Oshawa was named a Smart21 Community in 2016, and second overall in the American Cities of the Future 2017-18 ranking in the small cities category for its foreign direct investment (FDI) strategy.

In August, the Conference Board of Canada deemed Oshawa’s economy as the fastest growing among 16 comparative municipalities.

Mayor John Henry told The Oshawa Express he was “pretty proud of the accomplishment.”

“We’ve had some pretty good news stories in terms of technology and you just have to look at our educational component we have in Oshawa with Durham College, UOIT and Trent,” Henry says. “There are a lot of really interesting thing that are going on, and all our hard work by all the staff really shows in this award.”
