One night, two tasers
Durham police officers had to use their conducted energy weapons – better known as tasers – on two separate occasions in one evening.
Just before 9 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6, police were called to an apartment on Simcoe Street South in Oshawa for a disturbance. According to police, a woman was heard screaming inside the unit but would not come to the door. When police forced their way in, they confronted a distraught male who refused to cooperate and struggled with them. As a result, police used a taser to subdue him.
Police say the male was later released without charges and was given information on community resources available to him.
This followed up an incident earlier in the day in Ajax, where a 17-year-old female had barricaded herself in a washroom with a razor blade. She was later taken to hospital for treatment of her wounds.
