“No parking” signs installed on Tresane

Driving schools will continue to be allowed to use streets with transit routes, according to city council.

When Ward 5 City Councillor John Gray initially approached staff about banning driving instructors from transit routes, he said it was due to problems on Tresane Street, east of Park Road South.

The former mayor explained student drivers were “holding up the bus” when it would come down the street. This resulted in traffic backing out onto Park.

With driving schools using the street to practice parking and stopping, there were safety concerns surrounding the bus stop located at the south end of the street.

Gray said it’s a “big safety issue,” and after he brought it forward, staff approached him with the hope of finding a simpler solution.

The report to council explained it would be difficult to enforce the restriction of driving schools along city transit routes since they exist throughout Oshawa.

Gray and staff collaborated and decided on installing “no parking signs” along Tresane between Park Road South and the local bus stop.

“It’s already installed, and I just thought I was looking at too big of a solution by banning it for the whole street. Staff came back with an even simpler solution,” said Gray.
