Menopause The Musical! returning to Regent Theatre
The play that celebrates “the change” that woman experience during a certain time of their lives is returning to Oshawa’s Regent Theatre.
The theatre will present Menopause The Musical! on Friday, June 1 and Saturday, June 2.
Producer Mark Zimmerman of ShaggyPup Productions says he is excited to bring the show back to Oshawa.
“In 2017, we had two sold-out shows. It’s wonderful to be able to come back and sell out these shows as well,” Zimmerman says.
New this year, organizers will be selling “Hot Flash Fans” with proceeds supporting the YWCA Durham.
“We sell them to the patrons, pre-show and post-show. It’s our way of giving back to the community we are in, and supporting women who are in need,” Zimmerman says.
The fans can be purchased with a minimum donation of $2.
Menopause The Musical! is an original off-Broadway musical comedy set in a department store where four women meet by chance while shopping for a black lace bra at a lingerie sale.
After noticing unmistakable similarities among one another, the all-female cast joke about their “woeful hot flashes, mood swings, wrinkles, weight gain, memory loss, sex, and more.”
Inspired by a hot flash and a bottle of wine, the production was created as a celebration of women who find themselves at any stage of “the change.”
Zimmerman says the show features reworkings of classic songs from the 60s, 70s, and 80s to fit the context of the plot.
“All the lyrics are parodying the symptoms of menopause and what these women are going through,” he adds.
Menopause The Musical! features an-all Canadian cast, including Janet Martin, Jayne Lewis, Michelle E. White and Sarah Strange.
“We call them the ‘Canadian all-star cast’. They just feed off the energy of the audience,” Zimmerman says.
Menopause The Musical!, now in its 14th year, is recognized as the longest-running scripted production in Las Vegas.
It has been seen by more than 11 million people in 450 Canadian and U.S. cities, and 300 international locations in 15 countries.
Tickets are available through regenttheatre.ca, calling 905-721-3399 or at the box office, 50 King Street East, Oshawa.
