Man arrested after fleeing police
A 34-year-old man was arrested after fleeing from police.
On Tuesday, May 5, at approximately 3 a.m., a member of the Durham Regional Police Services (DRPS) K-9 Unit attempted to pull over a suspected impaired driver in the area of Ritson Road and King Street East in Oshawa.
The driver failed to stop for police and fled eastbound on Colonel Sam Drive, a dead end. The suspect turned around at the end of the street and drove toward officers and drove over two spike belts which were deployed on the roadway.
The vehicle continued to drive with four flat tired on Simcoe Street until he drove to another dead end. The suspect then fled on foot towards the pier in an attempt to flee from police. K-9 Rogue was deployed by his handler in an attempt to prevent the escape of the subject.
The man was arrested and suffered minor injuries. He was taken to a local hospital to be treated for a dog bite.
One of the police vehicles also sustained damage but there were no injuries to any of the officers involved.
The 34-year-old man is charged with operation while impaired, failure or refusal to comply with demand, assaulting a peace officer, assault with intent to resist, dangerous operation of a conveyance, flight from police, use of plate not for vehicle, driving while under suspension, and other driving-related offences. He was held for a bail hearing.
