Lords nationally ranked in men’s golf and soccer

The Durham College men’s golf and soccer teams have opened their 2018 seasons ranked amongst the nations best.
For men’s soccer, they start the season ranked seventh after starting their OCAA season with a scoreless draw against the Algonquin Thunder in a rematch of the 2017 OCAA gold medal game. This was the only conference game for the Lords thus far.

They play the Seneca Sting on Thursday, then travel to Scarborough and Peterborough this weekend to face the Centennial Colts and Fleming Knights.
“This is a positive piece of news for our program, but every team listed is going to get better each day heading into their conference championships, so we need to make sure we do that as well,” said head coach Dave Ashfield. “With our team going through what we did last year, they know what it takes to be successful at the end of the season, so I expect our group to continue working hard to improve every day. I’m happy with how we’ve started, but look forward to our group continuing to grow together.”
This is the first time the Durham golf team has been ranked rationally since September 2014.
Last season the Lords finished sixth at the PING CCAA golf national championship hosted after claiming bronze at the OCAA championship. Those results are what landed them their sixth spot in the opening week of CCAA rankings.
“We’re excited to make another push and have a successful year,” said head coach Tyler Martin. “It’s a very short golf season so we’re working to get our team on the same page and prepared for some tough competition leading into, and during, the provincial championship in October. Our goal is to get back to the national championship and hopefully build on last season’s experience on our home course.”
