Key is solving humanitarian emergencies

Dear Editor,

The earth is sick. Its obvious symptom is that more and more disasters threaten humans, bushfires, storms, floods, volcanic explosions, plagues, and epidemic diseases, and now the pain from COVID-19 is spreading to every corner of the world.

COVID-19 is a worldwide alarm to tell us that all human beings live on the earth equally. Unfortunately, we don’t deal well with humanitarian problems like epidemics, famine, natural disasters, armed conflict or multiple events that lead to mass migration, refugees or displaced persons. These problems are triggers to cause further hazards.

To solve humanitarian emergencies is a potentially powerful action to protect the planet and create a virtuous cycle. A mighty nation like Canada is capable of guiding human equality and building the ladder of harmony to ensure humanitarian crises do not disrupt education, limit access to essential health services, and prevent proper water, sanitation and hygiene. Canada can do more by investing at least one per cent of our COVID emergency costs in those fragile nations.
