How your vote counted
Dear Editor,
How you voted is your business. How your vote counted is our business.
Reflecting on the election’s result, a “me me” vote was the clear winner. Neighbours, friends and some family members proudly placed a “Me” sign on their lawn. So what did the Me get — a buck a beer? 10 cents a litre cut at the gas pump for their gas guzzler oversized vehicles that hog two parking spots at the local mall?
Let’s not forget a tax break that amounts to a cup of coffee on their way to work with their vehicle in park, idling at their favourite drive through.
The losers, the “us” side. The Me side stopped universal Pharmacare, dental care, bolstering retirement security and long term care, universal daycare for working families, eliminating tuition fees for all post secondary students and removing interest on existing student loans, taking back control of our hydro system and getting rid of the rip-off smart meter.
And the worst of all was taking the bread and butter off another worker’s plate with your vote to stop the minimum wage going forward to $15 an hour next year. That’s just something you just shouldn’t do.
For the “Me” voter under our rigged system, first past the post winner take all, enjoy your billion dollar tax cut at the gas pump, enjoy your buck a beer and extra cup of coffee, but remember, with your vote you are asking the lowest wage earner to subsidize you. If you don’t get it, I guess you never will.
