Handgun seized during fraud investigation
Police have seized a handgun, ammunition, and cash during a search warrant in Oshawa.
On Monday, April 6, 2020, police executed a search warrant for an ongoing fraud investigation from February 2020. The investigation involved the fraudulent purchase of furniture from a store in Scarborough with counterfeit identification.
During the search warrant, investigators located a handgun, ammunition and Canadian currency inside the residence, in addition to the furniture that had been illegally obtained. The evidence was seized and both suspects were arrested.
A 30-year-old of Oshawa is charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, careless storage of a firearm, contravention of storage regulations, unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm, possession of a firearm knowing its possession in unauthorized, possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000, breach of probation, and two counts of breach of recognizance. He was held for a bail hearing.
A 31-year-old of Markham is also facing the same charges, and was released on an undertaking.
