Getting chilly for a cure

Debby Guerreiro of the Oshawa West Lions Club, Chilly the penguin and Georgina Dunston, a volunteer for the Canadian Cancer Society, are collecting pledges and will be participating in Get Chilly for a Cure on Nov. 8.
With winter not far away, Nov. 8 might be a bit chilly. It will be especially chilly for those out running and walking for a cure.
The Canadian Cancer Society of Durham Region is looking for participants for its Get Chilly for a Cure event, a five-kilometre non-competitive walk or run. There will be two events – one at the Heydenshore Pavilion in Whitby and the Fire Hall Bistro in Orono.
This new event is raising money for cancer research. Walkers and runners need to raise a minimum of $50, or $25 if you’re between the ages of 5 and 18.
Those who raise at least $100 will also receive a limited edition Canadian Cancer Society Cancer Fighter scarf.
There are also draws for various prizes for those who raise more than $150.
