Greg Nemisz played minor midget AAA for the 2005 OMHA Champions, Clarington Toros, before being selected sixth overall in the 2006 OHL Priority Draft by the Windsor Spitfires. Greg’s OHL career began the following season with the Spitfires, playing alongside fellow Generals assistant coach Eric Wellwood. The Spitfires team went on to win the Memorial Cup in both 2009 and 2010. Nemisz spent four seasons with the Spitfires, with current Generals head coach Bob Jones as his assistant coach for three of those four seasons.
Greg was chosen in the first round (25th overall) in the 2008 NHL entry draft by the Calgary Flames. In his final year with the Windsor Spitfires, Greg scored 34 goals and 36 assists in 51 regular season games. His play was good enough to earn him a spot to play for Canada at the 2010 World Junior Championship. The following season, Nemisz made his NHL debut late for the Calgary Flames after having a great rookie season, scoring 14 goals and 19 assists, with the AHL’s Abbottsford Heat. After playing four years with Calgary AHL affiliate Abbotsford, Greg was traded to the Caroline Hurricanes organization.
After suffering a career ending injury during the 2014-2015 season with the Charlotte Checkers, Greg got his first taste of coaching when he played a key role in helping the 2015 Oshawa Generals win the Memorial Cup.
