Gens assistant coach Wellwood off to Flint
The Oshawa Generals are saying goodbye to a key member of its coaching staff. On May 20, the Flint Firebirds announced the appointment of Eric Wellwood as the new Associate Coach.
Wellwood coached two seasons with the Generals, winning an OHL Championship and a Memorial Cup. Prior to joining the Generals, Eric played four seasons with the Philadelphia Flyers and the AHL’s Adirondack Phantoms. He also played four seasons with the Windsor Spitfires, winning two Memorial Cups.
“The OHL strongly believes in developing both players and coaches and the Generals are known for our ability to recruit and grow strong coaches like Eric,” states Roger Hunt, the Gens’ general manager, in a news release.
“While I am looking forward to joining the Flint Firebirds organization, I consider Oshawa a second home and will miss the Generals’ fans and the great game day atmosphere,” states Wellwood.
“I want to thank Generals organization for giving me the opportunity to be on the bench with such a good group of players.”
