Less than a year after losing his seat as a regional councillor, Tito-Dante Marimpietri is set to hit up the polls again.
This time, however, he’s looking to head to Parliament Hill.
The former Oshawa councillor officially launched his campaign at a dinner event at the downtown Italian Club.
“I am fueled with energy and optimism. I know that together, we can take Oshawa back,” Marimpietri told the dining hall of the Italian Club packed with Liberal supporters. “Although we don’t know the exact date of the election, we’ve been working very hard. I have an awesome team. We’ve been preparing not only for the election, but so that we’re ready to govern.”
The election is currently set for Oct. 19, although the official writ, which marks the official start of the election campaign, has not yet been dropped.
Marimpietri has tough competition facing him, including Conservative incumbent Colin Carrie, running in his fifth election, and Mary Fowler of the NDP, who hopes to turn Oshawa orange for the first time since 1993.
One of Marimpietri’s endorsers is former colleague and former mayor John Gray.
“In 1968, we had Trudeaumania number one; let’s make 2015 Trudeaumania number two,” the former mayor said. “In order to achieve this, we need Liberals elected across the country. And our job in Oshawa is to elect Tito-Dante Marimpietri…and we need someone who is passionate about our community and continues to live in our community after he’s elected, unlike our current rep (Colin Carrie), who hasn’t lived in Oshawa for over seven years.”
