Feed the Need Durham kicks off annual Holiday Campaign
Feed the Need in Durham (FTND) is looking to raise $75,000 to help fight hunger in Durham with its annual Holiday Campaign.
The organization is looking to reach its target goal by Jan. 15, 2021 to support its mission of responding to hunger and helping the organization to distribute fresh and non-perishable food to 62 emergency food providers across the community.
More than 20,000 meals are provided to those facing hunger and food insecurity in Durham each month.
“This holiday season is a time when we are celebrating with family and friends, a time for thankfulness and reflection,” says FTND Executive Director Ben Early, adding it is also a time to think about those who have a little less, and those who are facing empty cupboards at home.
“During the COVID-19 pandemic, this need has only increased, as individuals and families face new hardships and challenges brought on by both health and economic uncertainty,” Earle continues.
He notes this year’s Holiday Campaign is “even more important this year” as FTND continues to support the community through this difficult time, now and into the new year.
Since March 2020, FTND has been at the forefront of its community’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic as the demand for food bank support has increased by 30 per cent across Durham.
FTND increased its food distribution over this period by more than 45 per cent, sharing over 1.1 million pounds with community organizations who are at the forefront of the fight against food insecurity.
