Excuse not good enough
Re: “Auto insurance fraud: a potentially dangerous and expensive problem,” Sept. 30
Dear Editor,
A typical response from Mr. Dubin, the vice-president of the Insurance Bureau of Canada, as to why auto insurance rates are high and may continue to rise.
We, the hundreds of thousands of law-abiding, ethical drivers have to apparently be repeatedly punished at the so-called pay-out trough for car insurance due to the despicable and fraudulent actions of a scant few hundred? Those crooks are already being punished or jailed for their crimes!
Mr. Dubin alludes to the fact that there are maybe hundreds more cases like those still under the radar. That’s simply not good enough of an excuse. That’s the business that insurance companies are in and signed up for, and I’m sure they collectively are making millions, if not billions, of dollars in profits, despite the hits by fraudsters.
The excuse of penalizing the good guys for the adverse actions of the bad criminals is wearing very thing.
Talk to the government of the day who said insurance companies need to bring their rates down, and are able to and should do.
We, the good drivers, pay your salaries. It’s time you consistently reward us good guys for that.
