Drugs found in back-to-school blitz

While Durham police were on the streets enforcing driving laws while students were returning to school, they found a car with passengers holding drugs.

At approximately 3:50 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 6, two officers saw a car run a light at Elm Street in Oshawa. During the traffic stop, the officers conducted an investigation into the four occupants of the vehicle, resulting in two of them being arrested and charged after drugs were found.

A 23-year-old male of Jane Street in Toronto was charged with three counts of possession of cocaine, crack cocaine and heroin for the purpose of trafficking and one count of possession of marijuana.

A 15-year-old male of Brampton was charged with one count of possession of crack cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and one count of possession of a controlled substance.

The Durham police’s In The Zone campaign resulted in officers issuing 1,362 tickets for various driving offences in and around schools in the region, including 786 for speeding.
