Don’t expect a vaccine anytime soon

Dear Editor,

Do not expect a vaccine anytime soon, and I am not just being pessimistic. The common cold does not even have a cure and neither does the flu! People can get the flu vaccine every year, it just means that, should you get the flu, it should be in a milder form.

I can’t help but wonder about the aids epidemic of the 1980s. We were told and assured that a vaccine will be on the horizon! Well, it is now 40 years later and we still do not have a vaccine!! People do not understand it could take several dozen years for a vaccine or cure to be found.

I realize that this is not a very hopeful letter, but we all must be realistic. Humans do not always win!

As for the epidemic I stated earlier, many people live a great deal longer because of drugs that have been developed for aids but there is still no cure. We have been told to treat the illness as you might diabetes or some other long term disease!

Some people, myself included, take upwards of 50 pills a day just to stay alive. How many people would want that?
