Community Care Durham offering free mental health workshop

Community Care Durham (CCD)’s COPE Mental health program is hosting a free online wellness workshop.

The workshop will run on July 30 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and everyone is welcome to attend.

“At CCD, we have seen that dealing with the impact of COVID-19 has increased people’s stress and anxiety levels,” says CCD CEO James Meloche. “The number of phone visits carried out by our COPE team to clients in our mental health case management service were more than double what was expected in May,” he adds, noting CCD is now providing more than 50 online mental health support groups to support people’s mental wellness.

The two-hour online workshop will include an explanation of the physical, emotional and behavioural symptoms associated with stress and anxiety.

Participants will also learn about the Dimensions of Wellness: Physical, intellectual, emotional, spiritual, occupational, and social and new ways to cope with anxiety and stress by incorporating self-care.

“The COPE team looks forward to welcoming anyone in Durham Region who is dealing with anxiety or stress to the workshop,” says Lori Schisler, manager of mental health and wellness, who notes participants can choose to attend by phone or video and confidentiality will be protected.

The RSVP and receive a link to the online workshop, email Elisa Stephen before July 28, 2020 at estephen@communitycaredurham.on.ca or call 905-985-8237.
