City hosting town halls on 2020 budget

Staff from several departments, city councillors to be on hand during ward-by-ward meetings

City residents will have a one-on-one audience with councillors to give their thoughts on the 2020 budget.

Five in-person town halls will be held in September, representing the city’s five wards.

Residents are encouraged to attend the town hall that best fits their schedule, regardless of whether or not it is held in the ward they vote in.

Each town hall will be attended by staff from building services, corporate communications, finance services, Oshawa Fire Services, municipal law enforcement and licensing services, operations, recreation and culture, and Service Oshawa.

The Ward 2 event will also include staff from the Oshawa Executive Airport.

Members of council will attend as well.

At approximately 7:15 p.m. during each town hall, finance services will provide overview on the aspects of the city budget as well as an outline of the 2020 approval process.

Each town hall will run from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the following locations:

  • Ward 4 – Tuesday, Sept. 10, at the Bobby Orr Lounge of the Civic Recreation Complex, 99 Thornton Road South
  • Ward 5 – Wednesday, Sept. 11, in meeting rooms 1 and 2 at the South Oshawa Community Centre, 1455 Cedar Street
  • Ward 2 – Thursday, Sept. 12 at gym A of the Northview Community Centre, 150 Beatrice Street East
  • Ward 3 – Monday, Sept.16 at the aerobics/fitness room of the Donevan Recreation Centre, 171 Harmony Road South
  • Ward 1 – Wednesday, Sept. 18 at the Fireplace Room of the Delpark Homes Centre, 1661 Harmony Road North

Residents can also share their budget priorities online at Connect Oshawa (connectoshawa.ca/budget2020) or on paper at Service Oshawa at city hall, 50 Centre Street South.

Feedback will be received until 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20.  All individual responses will be anonymous and only used to summarize overall feedback received by the city.
