Changes to election advertising
Nominations are being accepted for open positions in this fall’s municipal election.
Changes made to The Municipal Elections Act prohibit contributions to candidate campaigns by corporations and trade unions. Any individual, corporation or trade union planning to incur expenses to advertise in support or opposition to a candidate or question on the ballot must register with the city clerk as a third party advertiser.
Third party advertiser registrations will be accepted until Friday, Oct. 19.
To file a third party registration, the following documentation must be submitted to the City Clerk:
– Notice of Registration – Third Party – Form 7
– For corporations and trade unions, evidence from the directors of the corporation, or executive of the trade union authorizing the filing of the Notice of Registration – Third Party – Form 7
– For an individual, and an individual acting as an agent on behalf of a corporation or trade union, valid photo identification
