Catholic board reaches deal with staff

Weeks after reaching a deal with its elementary teachers, the Durham Catholic School Board has now reached an agreement with some of its staff.

The Durham Chapter of the Association of Professional Student Services – which includes those working in child and youth work, psychology, speech and language pathology, social work, attendance counseling, communication disorder assistance, and library services – has reached a tentative deal with the board.

“We feel the board negotiated a fair collective agreement which demonstrates the value we place on our para-professional staff, their overall well-being, and the significant contributions they make each and every day with students under their care,” states Theresa Corless, the board’s chair, in a news release.

“The Association of Professional Student Services Personnel is pleased to have reached a tentative agreement with the Durham Catholic District School Board,” states Deanna Lindsey, the association’s president, in the same release.

“All parties worked cooperatively to find compromise on many local issues that endeavour to improve working conditions for members and enhance service to students.”
