Break-in at Giant Tiger

A Newmarket man is facing several charges after a break-in at a Taunton Road store over the weekend.

At approximately 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 16, police were called to the Giant Tiger store on Taunton Road East after an alarm had been set off. Officers on scene found a window had been smashed and saw a suspect running from the scene, carrying a bag. A brief foot chase ensued, with officers catching up to the suspect after he climbed over a fence and fell to the ground.

The suspect was taken to hospital as a precaution, but did not suffer any serious injuries.

A 39-year-old male of Walter Street in Newmarket has been charged with break and enter and possession of stolen property under $5,000 in connection with the break-in.
