Boy rescued from pool by off-duty cop

An off-duty cop is being hailed for saving a young swimmer from a pool over the Labour Day long weekend.

On Sunday, Sept. 6 at approximately 3 p.m., officers and paramedics were called to an address in the area of Wilson Road North and Conlin Road East after a young boy was seen submerged in a backyard pool, flailing. An off-duty police officer and an off-duty nurse at the scene had pulled the boy to safety and administered first aid before paramedics arrived.

The young boy was taken to hospital, and is expected to make a full recovery.

Police are reminding residents to be extra cautious with children around water. This is the fourth incident this summer of a near drowning in a backyard pool in Durham Region. Police suggest children wear floatation devices when they are in or near swimming pools.
