Air1 helicopter locates robbery suspect
The DRPS recently utilized its Air1 to locate a suspect in a taxi robbery.
On June 13, at approximately 11:55 p.m., police were called to a robbery in the area of Simcoe Street and Thomas Street in Oshawa. A taxi driver was assaulted by a male passenger and then robbed of his cash.
The man fled on foot and ran into a residential area. Air1 was able to spot him hiding in a backyard, where he was then located by the K-9 unit hiding in a shed. The suspect was taken into custody.
A 33-year-old male from Clarington is charged with robbery and failing to comply with probation. He was released on a promise to appear in court.
