Unemployment remains unchanged
The amount of people out of work in the Oshawa area was the same last month as it was the month before, according to new data from Statistics Canada.
The unadjusted unemployment rate is the Oshawa census metropolitan area – which also includes Whitby and Clarington – sat at 5.9 per cent last month, unchanged from January.
This is an improvement over the same time last year, with the unemployment rate for February 2015 at 6.9 per cent.
Nationwide, more people were out of work, with the unemployment rate rising for the third month in a row, with the unadjusted rate hitting 7.3 per cent.
According to Statistics Canada, employment fell in health care and social assistance, educational services, and natural resources, while more people were working in construction, in business, building and other support services, as well as in agriculture.
