Two taken to hospital after car runs into bus shelter

Two people were taken to hospital after a car drove through a bus shelter.

At approximately 11:50 a.m. on Wednesday, May 24, police were called to the area of Stevenson and Bond in Oshawa. According to witnesses at the scene, a red Toyota Corolla driven by a male in his late 60s ran a red light while heading west on Bond. A green GMC truck going south on Stevenson hit the Toyota, sending the car off the road and into a bus shelter.

A woman in her early 60s was trapped under the Toyota before emergency workers were able to free her and take her to hospital. She was treated for minor injuries and has since been released.

A male in his 30s was also hit and taken to hospital. He has also since been release.

The two motorists had minor injuries.

Durham police say the 69-year-old driver of the Toyota will be charged with careless driving.
