Trade toys for parking fines

Getting a parking ticket is not something most people want, but for the next few weeks offenders can turn their infractions into a good holiday deed.

The City of Oshawa’s annual Toys for Tickets programs has returned.

From Dec. 6 to Dec. 8, Service Oshawa will accept new unwrapped toys (accompanied by a cash register receipt indicating the value of the toy) in lieu of payment.

This opportunity is extended only to those who receive tickets between Saturday, Nov. 24 and Friday, Dec. 7.

Tickets for parking illegally in accessible spaces and unauthorized parking violations are not eligible in the Toys for Tickets program.

Toys will be accepted for children aged infant to 18 years of age and the value of the toy must equal or exceed the amount owing on the parking ticket.

All of the donated toys will go to families in need through the Durham Regional Police Service Food and Toy Drive.

Tickets can be paid at Service Oshawa, located on the first floor of city hall (50 Centre Street South) from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6 and Friday, Dec. 7.

On Saturday, Dec. 8, Service Oshawa will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
