Text 9-1-1 now online

Durham police have flipped the switch on a service that will make it easier for those with hearing impairments in the event of an emergency.

Those that are deaf, hard of hearing or speech impaired can now register with a DRPS program that will allow them to communicate with the 9-1-1 operations centre via text messages.

The new system is only for those that sign up for it, and can’t be used if registration has not been completed.

Those interested in using the service can sign up and find more information at textwith911.ca.
