Telephone town halls scheduled for Durham

Province seeking feedback on sex education curriculum

Registration is open for local consultations regarding the development of the province’s new sex education curriculum.

Dates for telephone town halls were released by the Ministry of Education recently.

Two town halls will be held for Durham, Monday, Oct. 29 from noon to 1:30 p.m. and Thursday, Nov. 8 from 8:30 to 10 p.m.

Registration for each session will close at 4 p.m. the day before.

All sessions are scheduled for 90 minutes, and registrants will be contacted prior to the event so they can be placed directly in the session.

All comments provided are anonymous and all calls will be in English, with a few exceptions.

Those who are unavailable for the announced dates can register for a session in a nearby region. The Ministry states that more town hall sessions are planned, so individuals can also check back later for more dates.

As part of what the Ford government calls “unprecedented” consultation with parents, it is seeking feedback on the new sex education curriculum, student performance in math and science, and the development of a Parents’ Bill of Rights.

Parents can also provide feedback through an online submission form, through fortheparents@ontario.ca, or via an online survey.

The deadline to provide consultation is Dec. 15, 2018.
