Teen arrested, tased following multiple assaults

An Oshawa teen was tased and arrested after police say he assaulted several people.

Durham police were called to the area of Largo Crescent and Ormond Drive in Oshawa just before 11 p.m. on Friday, July 22 for a disturbance call. According to police, a male suspect went to a party and reportedly attempted to steal objects from that residence before being asked to leave. An altercation took place at a nearby park, with police saying the suspect bit, scratched and hit people with a tree branch.

The suspect was later located by police after he fled the area. Following a brief altercation with police, an officer used a conducted energy weapon – better known as a Taser – to subdue the suspect.

Police say that before the CEW was used, the suspect attempted to grab it from the officer, and that after he was arrested, he bit another officer.

A 17-year-old male of Oshawa has been charged with three counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of assault, three counts of uttering threats, and one count each of disarming a police officer and assaulting a police officer.

Anyone with new information on this investigation is asked to call Const. Giguere at 1-888-579-1520, ext. 5100.
