Suspect was already in police custody
Police did not have to go far to arrest a suspect in a recent break-in – he was already in police custody on another matter.
According to police, a break-in was reported at a home in the Beatrice Street East and Charrington Avenue area on Wednesday, June 22. Police say the suspect gained entry overnight after forcing open a backyard window. A number of items, including a credit card and cellphone left beside the victim’s bed, were stolen.
Later that morning, surveillance cameras caught a suspect using the stolen credit card at an Oshawa gas station.
On June 28, a detective recognized the man in the video as a man already in police custody on an unrelated matter.
A 26-year-old male of Oshawa has been charged with break and enter, possession of stolen property, using a stolen credit card, fraud under $5,000 and failure to comply with a probation order in connection with this incident.
