SIU investigating after man injured

The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has been called in after a 53-year-old man sustained serious injuries after interaction with police.

A media release from the SIU states at approximately 1 a.m. on Aug. 11, Durham Region Police Service officers responded to a complaint about the man in a restaurant in the area of Athol Street East and Celina Street in downtown Oshawa.

Officers located the man in a public parking lot near the intersection, and there was an interaction between the two parties.

The man later attended hospital where he was diagnosed with a serious injury.

Two investigators have been assigned to the incident, while one subject officer and eight witness officers have been designated.
