Residents can help name new Oshawa school
The Durham District School Board is inviting community members to help name the new public school in Oshawa.
DDSB guidelines for school names indicate that the school may be named after someone who is recognized as having made a significant contribution to society in the region, province or country. The school cannot be named after a current employee of the board or member of the board.
A historical name which once applied to the area in which the school is located can also be used, as well as the name of the district which the school will serve. Also, the name of the street on which the school is located can be used.
In keeping with the guidelines, the school will not be named after a current employee or Trustee of the Board.
The unnamed public school in north Oshawa will be located at 800 Greenhill Avenue.
Submissions will be accepted up to Monday, May 27, and should be e-mailed to the attention of Jamila Maliha, Superintendent of Education at UnnamedOshawaPS@ddsb.ca
The Durham District School Board has requested submissions include a detailed background/history of the suggested name along with individual’s name, address, e-mail address and telephone number.
