Racecar pulled over after leaving track

Police are reminding residents that racecars need to stay on the track.

On Wednesday, May 25, an officer conducting traffic enforcement on Winchester Road near Thornton Road North in Oshawa stopped a car that did not have a properly functioning muffler. According to police, the car, a modified Porsche, had just come from the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park Track Days event. A member of the Ministry of the Environment assisted in the roadside stop, and seized the plates from the car.

A 25-year-old Markham man has been charged with driving a motor vehicle with no muffler and making unnecessary noise, as well as other offences under the Environment Protection Act.

Several other modified motor vehicles were stopped and inspected in the area by officers.

Police would like to remind residents that while it would rather see cars take to the track than the streets to get a taste for speed, cars modified for track racing, such as modified exhaust systems and tires, may be in contravention of the Highway Traffic Act and the Environmental Protection Act.
